Other Ways to Color
One way to make Christmas coloring pictures even more fun is to try using different materials.
For example, have the kids decorate the front windows with festive holiday images:
- Using white bath soap, draw an outline of some favorite characters, such as Santa or a grove of Christmas trees.
- Break open a pack of window crayons and let the kids fill in the characters with bright color.
- After the holidays, wash the windows with a damp cloth, and start all over with a winter decorating theme using snowflakes or Frosty.
Older children might enjoy adding new sparkle to gift tags by hand-making them:
- Gather together unlined 3x5 index cards, a spool of ribbon, and small cookie cutters featuring stars, reindeer, or snowflakes.
- Have the kids trace the cookie cutter shape onto the index card.
- Use metallic crayons and pens to color the outline.
- Punch a hole in one corner of the card and string the ribbon through.
As a fun family activity and decoration, make a long table runner with Christmas coloring pictures:
- Start with a roll of easel paper that you can buy at an art store or online. Most rolls measure 18-inches wide and up to 75-feet long.
- Cut off your desired length.
- Mix and match crayons, markers, and paints.
- Have each person draw his or her favorite thing or activity about Christmas.
