Christmas Decoration

From LoveToKnow Christmas

One of the reasons Christmas is so special is because of all the Christmas decoration options available. From trees to mistletoe and stockings to glittering lights, whether your tastes are subtle or you like to go all out, your home is sure to shine!

Christmas balls, ornaments

Wreaths

A Christmas decoration doesn’t have to be store bought. If you’re handy with a glue gun or like to wield a crochet needle, you can make some of your own. Craft stores really come alive during the holiday season. Browse the aisles and you’ll find pine cones of various sizes, both fake and fresh evergreen boughs, fake snow, plastic berries, and Styrofoam and wire wreath forms. Pick out your favorite items and make your own beautiful doorway wreath.

If crafts aren’t your thing, there are beautiful pre-made wreaths available in fine stores everywhere. In fact, wreaths have evolved from the basic evergreen bough and pine cone variety. Decorate your doorway with herbs or fruit or use a beautiful holly or poinsettia wreath.

Lights

Christmas would not be Christmas without sparkle and glitter. When making up your Christmas decoration wish list, don’t forget to add lots of lights! Lights have also evolved. No longer are they only wrapped around trees or tacked around the front door. With Christmas lights, you’re only limited by your imagination. Drape them over a fireplace mantle or use to frame your mailbox. Take advantage of outdoor sockets to make your bushes and trees shine and twinkle. Use small white lights for a classic approach or add whimsy with colors and blinkers.

Homemade Christmas Decoration

Christmas is open season for crafters. Proving the best Christmas decoration is the one you make yourself, creative people make their own wreaths, ornaments, garland, stockings and anything else they can think of. The best part about these decorations is how they can be given as stocking stuffers and gifts to friends and family. Everyone appreciates a homemade Christmas decoration.

Outside Christmas Decorations

The trend lately has been to inflate large bulbous lawn ornaments each holiday season. Houses that were once decorated with fresh greens and twinkle lights are now adorned with inflatable Santas and The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. There’s nothing wrong with inflatable Christmas ornaments, if that’s your preference. Many of them even light up at night.

The real magic comes from those who create a winter wonderland outside their homes. Lights take up every available space and those surfaces not taken up by lights are still put to use. Rooftop Santas and mechanical reindeer are prominently displayed amid snowflakes and pine cone wreaths.

Christmas Decoration Ideas

Are you looking for Christmas Decoration ideas? You’ve come to the right place! Here are a just a few suggestions.

  • Mistletoe: Who doesn’t enjoy kissing under the mistletoe? Hang some from every door way for a festive and romantic touch.
  • Stockings: Nothing adds warmth to a fireplace mantle like Christmas stockings. If you don’t have a mantle, find creative ways to display these colorful socks. Try hanging them from doorways or molding. Pegged shelves such as those used to hang baseball caps or ties make wonderful temporary stocking holders.
  • Pinecones: Place pinecones in festive bowls or have them strewn about here and there. Tie with ribbons or spray gold or silver and hang from a tree. However, if bringing in pinecones from outdoors, put them on a disposable aluminum tray and bake in the oven at a low heat to get rid of any bugs.
  • Paper or popcorn chains: Get the kids involved by making chains from paper and popcorn.
  • Lights: Every house needs Christmas lights! Wrap small white lights with greenery and drape over fireplace mantles, around doorways and around banisters. Make sure the lights aren’t the type to get too hot as they could pose a safety hazard.
