Christmas Game
From LoveToKnow Christmas
Playing a Christmas game can really get you in the spirit of the season. Whether you play by yourself, with a group of people at a party, or have one that revolves around a present exchange, games can liven up the winter blues.
Finding a Christmas Game Online
If you find yourself with some time to kill waiting for cookies to come out of the oven or for your spouse to return with presents to wrap, playing a game online is a way to keep yourself in the holiday mood. It also keeps kids busy as you decorate the house for any upcoming parties and events planned.
Several free gaming websites offer Christmas game selections. Popular games include a holiday version of tic-tac-toe, matching, solitaire, and navigation games where you guide a Santa or snowman in a mission. Visit the following sites for different games:
- The Kidz Page offers puzzles, word searches, and flash games for kids.
- Santa Games features an interactive gaming page. Click on the different items in Santa’s house to play games and visit different parts of the website.
- Surfing the Net with Kids this site offers Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza, and winter games geared towards children.
- BlackDog offers not only online games, but activities that can be printed off and done at your house. Some games do cost a small fee, so only adults or children with permission to download games should use this site.
Games for Groups
Livening up a party when it’s cold, blowy, and snowy outside can be a challenge. The winter blahs can hit even during the festive time of Christmas. If you want to be sure your guests have a good time at your party, gathering, or office festivities, make sure you have a Christmas game or activity for everyone to participate in.
Kids’ Games
Children’s parties are often large and can get out of control. To keep your kids busy and out of trouble, try playing a game or two. Some ideas include:
- Santa Says (A Christmas version of Simon Says)
- Christmas Bingo (Have your children help you make the bingo cards)
- Pin the Nose on Rudolph
Pre-teens and older might enjoy simply having enough room to dance to Christmas music, along with food and drinks. Or, if the weather cooperates, have a snowman building contest outside. Provide props, food coloring, and invite an impartial neighbor to do the judging.
Try to have a small prize, like gift certificate to a local fast food place or Christmas coloring book, for the winner.
Adult Games
Games are not just for kids. At a more intimate gathering (between 10-20 people), games can help everyone get to know each other. For adult parties, limit yourself to one game you feel everyone will enjoy. Games to try include:
- Christmas Carol Pictionary—Draw out Christmas carols on a large dry-erase board or paper. This can be done individually or in teams, depending on the number of people at your party.
- Christmas Music Charades—Divide into teams. Write out titles of different songs for each team to act out. Points are awarded for every correct guess.
- Reindeer Hunt—Hide small reindeer throughout your home as you decorate. Let people know that Santa’s reindeer have escaped and you need to hunt them down. The first person or team to turn in locations of all the reindeer win.
At an adult party, it is a good idea to have a small gag prize. Popular choices include a Santa’s hat, reindeer antlers, ornament, or small box of holiday goodies.
Present Exchange Game
Having a Christmas game that revolves around a gift exchange is always fun for everyone who participates. One of the most popular games involves a story that is read by the host, as participants sit in a circle holding their present. Every time the word “right” or “left” is read, the guest will pass the gift to the person on that side. Modifying the game to include the names of participants makes it more special. Below is a story for you to try at your party:
On Christmas Eve, Susan LEFT for a Christmas party. On her way there, her RIGHT tire blew out, and she was LEFT stranded in the snow. LEFT to figure out a new way to the party, she tried to make it RIGHT by calling her host, Bobby. Bobby LEFT the party RIGHT away and took his truck RIGHT to her. Susan LEFT her vehicles lights on to warn cars coming from the LEFT and RIGHT that she had a breakdown. Despite her downRIGHT bad start to the night, Susan LEFT the party after having a wonderful time. RIGHT after she awoke on Christmas morning, Susan LEFT her house to go RIGHT to her car. Much to her surprise, Santa had LEFT presents in the LEFT and RIGHT seats! Her broken down car started RIGHT away, and Susan LEFT with a happy heart, knowing the spirit of Christmas had made everything all RIGHT.
