Christmas Trivia Games

Playing Christmas trivia games is one way to get the company Christmas party going. Limit yourself to just one or two trivia games in order to get the party started. You can have small prizes for team winners if you wish.

What Holiday Character Am I?

A spin-off of the popular game “Who Am I?,” this game begins as guests enter. Put a sticky note on their back with the name of a holiday character, such as Rudolph, Santa, or Frosty the Snowman. Give each guest a sheet of paper with lines for as many people are invited. Tell everyone they can ask one yes-or-no question of every guest, using the paper to record their answers.

Once everyone has arrived and had a chance to mingle, have people turn in their guess of character. If you choose to hand out goodies to the winners, be sure to have enough goodies for everyone, in case all the guesses are correct.

Name That Holiday Tune

Have a CD of about 10-to-20 Christmas songs ready in a stereo. Divide co-workers into two teams, and give them jingle bells to shake. Play the intro of each song (approximately 10-15 seconds). The player who shakes the bell first gets to guess. If he or she guesses wrong, the other team can collaborate to guess correctly and steal the points. The winning team is the one with the most points when you hit the end of your CD.

Christmas Trivia Quiz

This is a simple game that can be played at even semi-formal office celebrations. Either hand out questionnaires as people arrive, or have one at every dinner place setting. Ask Christmas trivia questions, such as “What is the War on Christmas?” or “Who wrote “White Christmas?” At a designated time, collect trivia sheets and tally up who got the most questions correct.

Classic Christmas Office Party Games

You can play a number of other games at your corporate Christmas party that are based upon classic games people are familiar with. Smaller offices could even have games like Scattergories, Apples to Apples, or Trivial Pursuit available to play at the party. Put people into teamed pairs if you are a little bit over the number of players.

Other classic party games than can easily be converted into Christmas party games include:

  • Holiday BINGO
  • Holiday Charades or Christmas Movie Charades
  • Christmas Jeopardy
  • Christmas Pictionary
  • Holiday Hangman

If your office does a gift exchange, you can play Christmas party gift exchange games, such as “left, right” or the numbers game. “Left, right” involves passing gender neutral gifts to the left or right every time the word is mentioned in a story. The numbers game involves drawing a number out of a Santa hat, the person with number one picking a present from a group. Number two can either take number one’s present, either left wrapped or unwrapped, or pick a different one.

Creative Holiday Game Ideas

Creative party planners may want to come up with their own Christmas party games. If you want to do that, be sure to make it easily explained with a few simple rules, and appropriate for the workplace. For example, if your boss is a recovering gambling addict, having a holiday casino game night may not be appropriate.

The best party games are ones you think of yourself, since you know your co-workers better than any website ever could. To get you started, think about red and green Mardi Gras beads. For example, hand one out to every person who comes in the door. Tell everyone that every time someone mentions a certain word, like “snow,” or the boss’ name, the first person to hear it can demand the beads. The person with the most beads at the end of the night wins a prize. Other games can involve Santa hats, reindeer antlers, Christmas cookies—your imagination is not limited.
