Free Printable Christmas Cards
From LoveToKnow Christmas
Often people appreciate Christmas cards more when they come from the heart instead of a store shelf, which is why it can be a good idea to use free printable Christmas cards. You can customize the cards before you print them out. This might also be a cheaper way to send holiday greetings.
Finding Free Printable Christmas Cards
There are lots of places on the Web to find free printable Christmas cards. For starters, a person can visit the following sites:
- Print Free – This site has several pages worth of printable cards, including ones with traditional designs and ones that are unconventional. Some examples are an armed forces design and several featuring holiday décor. You can print them in quarter-fold or half-fold size.
- Greeting Island – This site has several fun and bright colored cards in relatively modern designs. It also has an easy customization tool to help the user alter text and images to his or her liking. It’s even possible to add a personal photo.
- 123 Print Cards – This site has its printable Christmas cards divided into three categories: cute, funny and photo. Cute cards have simple line drawings of happy people and animals, funny cards have snarky sayings on the front, and photo cards have images of both Santa and winter scenes. You can also print these cards in an invitation size.
- DLTK Holidays – This site provides four greeting card templates you can either print out as is or download to a graphics program. They are available in both color and black and white. One unique template is for a multi-fold card that looks like a firecracker.
- Mint Printables – This site has not only printable cards but also party invitations, gift bags, lists, tags and gift bag patterns. The print template is a bit tricky to use, so it’s best to download the images and then arrange them.
- Hoover Web Design – This site has three pages of very basic cards, all without greetings printed inside them. Images are line drawings of traditional Christmas items, like toy soldiers and reindeer.
- Home Life Weekly – This site has a selection of both line drawing and photo cards available as PDF downloads. This makes them easy to cut and paste into photo editing software for personal customization.
Customizing Printable Cards
While some people are fine with just printing out the cards, signing them and sending them as is, others like to add a bit of their personality to them before dropping them in the mail to friends and relatives. There are several things a person can do to make a free printable Christmas card more unique.
- Add a message in a fun font, such as a loopy script or block letters.
- Use Photoshop or a similar program to make provided images more personal, such as adding a logo to Santa’s suit.
- Change the provided colors to the recipient’s favorites.
- Cut the card so that it is a nontraditional shape.
- Add embellishments after printing it out, such as glitter, buttons, felt or feathers.
While it’s fine to print out cards on traditional computer paper, they can be made more durable by using card stock instead. This is a thicker and stiffer paper that is available at most craft and office supply stores. To prevent wasting card stock, which is significantly more expensive than printer paper, it’s a good idea to do a printer paper test run. It can be hard to tell exactly how a card will print out, even when using print preview, and it may take several tries to get it looking right.
