Classic Funny Christmas Songs

While traditional carols and hymns are wonderful for singing at Christmas parties, you may want to spice it up a little bit with some funny tunes to take the edge off. Whether you listen to them alone or share them with friends and neighbors, these tunes will surely brighten your spirits.

Several funny Christmas tunes have been around for years. Often children’s favorites, they are played frequently on the radio and you can find them in classic compilation albums. The songs include:

Rewritten Christmas Songs

Christmas songs are often rewritten using the same melodies but different lyrics. A favorite kids’ song, to the tune of Jingle Bells, goes:

"Jingle bells, Batman smells, Robin laid an egg. Batmobile lost a wheel and Joker got away!"

An abundance of rewritten songs are out there. Two of the most popular songs to rewrite are The 12 Days of Christmas and ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas. In fact you can rewrite The 12 Days of Christmas using your own funny gifts to make a new carol, and give Santa a surprise in a new version of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.

Entire songs are not always rewritten. Sometimes, just parts of songs are used to exhibit humorous situations. For example, the names of popular Christmas songs are changed in Christmas Carols for the Psychiatrically Challenged and Fractured Christmas Carols.

Funny Holiday Albums

Comedians love to write hilarious songs for the Christmas. Sometimes, they even make it onto the radio, with huge success. Their Christmas albums become best sellers, and their tunes become big downloads in December.

Funny Christmas songs by comedians include:

One of the most played holiday songs by a comedian is Adam Sandler’s Chanukah Song. Although not technically about Christmas, it has become a holiday favorite. He also has A Christmas Song that was played during his time on Saturday Night Live.

Other Funny Christmas Tunes

A variety of other funny Christmas songs can be found at the holidays. Animals seen to make great singers, as the abundance of dogs, cats, frogs, and chickens make their singing debut at the holidays. Check out Christmas Unleashed by Jingle Dogs for a good laugh.

Household items get into the Christmas music mix with Woody Philips' album A Toolbox Christmas. He uses household tools to make the songs really come alive for the fix-it man (or woman) in all of us.

Local radio stations are good sources of funny Christmas tunes. Drive-time deejays often play songs that have hilarious lyrics and cute tunes while you are on your commute. One famous song Damn It, I’m Vixen by Brian Beathard became a hit through multiple radio plays.

Good heavens, Dave, that took quite a while to find! But I'm happy to say that the reliable Dr. Demento features Molly Abboud's "The Pretty Little Dolly" on his "Holidays in Dementia" disc. Enjoy!

I heard an old funny Christmas song recently, and I have been trying to find the name of it. The song is a little girl describing a special doll she wants for Christmas that does everything imaginable and unexpected! Very funny. Do you know where I might find it?
